Korail 2100: Architecture Idea Competition

The jury has announced the winners of the Korail Design Festival’s architectural idea generation competition! Congratulations to the talented participants who showcased innovative visions for Korail's future in 2100

The Korail 2100: Speculative Fantasies / Lived Realities competition winners have been announced! This innovative competition, part of the Korail Design Festival December 2024, invited students of architecture and creative disciplines to envision Korail’s multiple futures in 2100, combining speculative ideas with lived realities.

The competition aimed to challenge conventional urban design approaches and ignite a dialogue on architecture's role in addressing urban injustices. With Korail—a densely populated informal settlement in Dhaka—serving as the focus, participants explored how architecture could act as a tool for social justice, equity, and dignity.

The competition was organized by Kazi Arefin, Ruhul Abdin, S M Kaikobad, and Farhin Iqbal Chowdhury.

The distinguished jury included Fuad Mallick, Farasha Zaman, S M Kaikobad, Niklaus Graber, Sadiqul Shehab, Floating University Berlin, Kirsten Hackenbroch, and Kazi Arefin. Their insights and expertise guided the selection of the best projects.

The winners of the competition received a cash prize of BDT 30,000 each, and the runner-up teams received BDT 20,000 each. All participants were awarded certificates of participation and opportunities to exhibit their work at the Moja Kori Design Festival.
