CALL FOR SUPPORT

Machan Women’s Cafe

As part of our ongoing work at Machan, we are setting up a women led cafe to open this month - October 2026! This cafe will be a social enterprise, run by the Machan team, and a group of women chefs from Korail will cater for the cafe daily. The menu will be designed with the women, and there will be lots of explorations and archiving of the food culture of Korail.

The cafe will provide much needed financial sustainability for Machan, as we continue to develop exciting critical and cultural programming in the months, and years ahead. There will be space for a book corner, performances, kid’s corner and more!

To do this, we need furniture, fittings, fixtures for an adaptable 20-30 seating cafe along with tools, tables for meetings and workshops.

Help us to establish the cafe, and Machan as a centre for culture.

We have a practical inventory to get the cafe started.

You can donate furniture, fixtures and fittings, as well as cash:

Lightweight furniture ( tools, chairs, folding tables etc. ) , cutlery, kitchen equipment, lighting fixtures, small storage units, fridge/freezer etc. Please give us a call / fill in the form and we can make sure your donation is appropriate. To arrange a drop off at Korail or for queries: Jony 01766240812 Papia 01904323879

Direct cash donations are also welcome to support the initial running of Machan - for staff, bills and cafe’s food stock inventory. We have already raised 2 lacs, and are looking to raise upto 5 lacs more for the running of the cafe for the first 6 months.

Machan is a youth-led space in Korail, with a focus on using art, design and culture to support Korail’s ongoing future imaginations. It is a place where people can play, learn, connect, and celebrate culture.

Machan was founded in 2024, designed and built by Paraa as a space for the above activities through a rigorous design process. It was developed in collaboration with the youth of Korail and with development and fundraising taking place from 2021 with support from the Federal Foreign Office, Germany + Goethe Institut- Bangladesh.
