What is the talk about?
The future of informal settlements is forever shrouded in complexity, especially within Dhaka. Khalid and the Korail community leaders will explore the challenges that exist within informal settlements across multiple dimensions, including land and housing rights, for the people who call these settlements 'home'.
About Khalid Hussain: Khalid is a human rights lawyer and the Founder and Chief Executive of the Council of Minorities, a minority rights based organization in Bangladesh. During his career he has been deeply involved working in the field of statelessness and citizenship rights. He has accrued extensive experience to ending the statelessness of Bihari-Urdu Speaking community in Bangladesh.
Golper-SHALA is a talk series focusing on different topics relating to the future of the neighbourhood, architecture, culture and urbanism. This session is also a part of the Hoichoi exhibition, focused on the Korail- City of Culture project.
'Korail- City of Culture' is an initiative in sustainable urban development, supported by the Creative Economy Programme of the Federal Foreign Office (Germany), in conjunction with the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, Paraa, and German partner, Floating e.V. The project endeavors to foster sustainable cultural practices among the residents of Korail, enriching global and local discourse on urban development.
